Nike’s Popular React Element 87 Sneaker Is Releasing Two Bold New Colorways

Last year, Nike introduced the React Element 87 lifestyle runner to the footwear market and immediately generated major buzz, with many sneaker enthusiasts even declaring it as their pick for the best sneaker of 2018.
If you haven’t been able to purchase the handful of colorways released on the SNKRS app thus far, listen up because the Swoosh is set to drop more iterations soon.
Both of the upcoming “Touch of Lime” and “Hyper Fusion” makeups will feature two of the bolder styles for the model. First up is the “Touch of Lime” version, which sports a light-brown semi-translucent upper with an orange Swoosh logo and neon green hits throughout, anchored by gray panels on both the eye stay and heel. Underneath it all is the React foam midsole, which was created to provide maximum comfort for everyday movements like standing, shifting your weight and walking.

The “Hyper Fusion” colorway, meanwhile, opts for a two-tone translucent upper combining neon green at the midfoot with pink at the heel. Additional details include a black Swoosh and red and black accents throughout, which sits atop a black React sole.

What He’s Packing: How Bloomingdale’s Justin Berkowitz Prepares for European Fashion Weeks

When it comes to packing for the onslaught of fashion weeks in Europe, Justin Berkowitz is no rookie.
As director of men’s fashion at Bloomingdale’s, Berkowitz regularly navigates the circuits between London, Milan and Paris, adapting to the changing climates, terrains and style aesthetics in each fashion capital — so it’s no surprise he has a few secrets to getting his packing game down to a T.

Here, FN learns his travel essentials.
What are your go-to travel shoes? Why?
“I tend to wear my heaviest pair of shoes — usually boots — to save space in my baggage, according to the adage of wearing your bulkiest pieces on the plane. In the winter, that’s often an old pair of Tricker’s black leather lace-up boots, and in the summer, a pair of desert boots.”
What and how many shoes are you packing? Which brands?
“Normally, I would pack three or four variations on a theme, typically versions of white sneakers. This trip, I’m trying to switch it up a little bit and am packing shoes that feel aesthetically very different. I will be gone just over two weeks, so I’m packing six pairs total: a classic pair of Bordeaux leather derbies from O’Keefe, low Wallabees from

The Launches and Retail Innovations That Will Dominate the NRF Big Show

At the NRF Big Show, held Jan. 13-15 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, roughly 700 exhibitors will aim to showcase their newest technologies to 37,000 attendees.
And the timing couldn’t be better, particularly as the retail market faces challenges on numerous fronts.
Several companies plan to launch technologies that can be integrated into existing products and platforms. For instance, Kronos Inc. and Toshiba are respectively implementing AI to power additional insights into HR and point-of-sale (POS). Toshiba, the global POS market leader, is also releasing several POS and printing tools, including the TCx Single Station Printer; at 406 millimeters per second, it’s the fastest receipt printer in the industry.
“Toshiba is making frictionless shopping a reality by employing enabling technologies such as artificial intelligence,” said Bill Melo, chief marketing executive of global commerce solutions. “The solutions, services and innovative concepts that we’re demonstrating will enhance the shopping experience for customers and improve operational results for retailers globally.”
NRF provides an opportunity for international companies to tap into a whole new market, including Taggstar, the Social Proof messaging company, and Nedap, creators of the fastest-growing RFID platform. Nedap’s !D Cloud platform has already seen large-scale rollouts in Europe and South Africa, but NRF will

Pregnant Jessica Simpson Shares a Photo of Her Swollen Feet — Here’s What She Can Do

Jessica Simpson likes to stay in touch with her fans. This time, the mom-to-be reached out on Instagram for advice on how to treat her swollen feet. While there are some commonsense tips such as resting at intervals through the day and keeping feet elevated, FN reached out medical and footwear experts on advice for dealing with the discomfort she’s experiencing.
According to the American Pregnancy Association, a website that promotes wellness, during this period, the body produces about 50 percent more blood and body fluids to meet the needs of the developing baby, resulting in swelling called edema.

Dr. Joshua Moore, a podiatrist and surgeon at the Temple University Foot & Ankle Institute, explained that while there are some lifestyle changes pregnant women can make to address swollen feet, the condition can’t be prevented. Here, he shares tips on how to lessen the swelling.
Change your diet
The most important action women can take is limiting their intake of sodium and caffeine since these can cause dehydration in the body, which results in the retention of water.
Be mindful of how you’re sitting and for how long
Next, don’t sit for long periods of time or keep legs crossed. “If legs are bent, it prevents

Pitti Uomo Once Again Attracts the Best Men’s Street Style

Pitti Uomo, the biannual menswear fair in Florence Italy, just wrapped up its fall ’19 show today during men’s fashion month. This time around, the event, which is known for attracting incomparable street style, didn’t disappoint and FN was one the scene to capture its best moments.
As far as trends were concerned, the male guests continued to choose sneakers as their footwear of choice. Popular brands included Nike, Balenciaga and Converse. However, the chunky dad shoe trend seems to be coming to an end. Rather than choosing Balenciaga’s Triple S, men chose the label’s new hiker-inspired Track Trainers.

There was also a hint of Western, as seen on attendee Alladin Philipe Faily. He wore a pair of Heritage boots paired with a Southwest-inspired Pendleton coat with a shearling trim.

A lot of men went for sleek and polished ensembles featuring suiting and classic loafers. Some accessorized with hats and scarves. And those who opted for more typical men’s shoe silhouettes made sure they were elevated. For example, the derby boot by Junya Wantanabe was spotted, and it was updated with a reflective yellow strip that couldn’t be missed.

Goodwill Is Getting Into the Luxury Authentication Game

If you’re buying luxury accessories secondhand, you want to be sure you’re getting the real deal — and now Goodwill wants to make sure you are, thanks to new authentication tools.
The Orange County, Calif.-based nonprofit, which supports programs like job training and professional certifications for people with disabilities or other barriers to employment, is partnering with the AI-powered authentication solution Entrupy to enable workers in 125 Goodwill agencies across the country to establish luxury donations as genuine on the spot before listing them online.
On Shopgoodwill.com, the pieces are then listed for auction with an Entrupy certificate, which provides a financial guarantee of authenticity for one year from the date of purchase. The program uses microscopic surface images from tens of thousands of styles to analyze materials and verify individual items.
Currently, the solution works with a select list of designers, including Louis Vuitton, Dior, Balenciaga and Gucci, and only authenticates handbags and small leather goods, but according to a press release, additional product categories are planned for 2019.
“Over the years, Shopgoodwill.com has benefited from our local community’s generous donations of high-end items. At the same time, we’ve witnessed ‘Caveat Emptor’ first hand, and that skepticism keeps us from maximizing the full

Two years later, Nike has released an alternative for those who missed out on the chance to buy the highly coveted sneakers.

How the Government Shutdown Is Preventing a Potential US-China Trade Deal

Following this week’s midlevel discussions to resolve their trade concerns, the United States and China have agreed to move ahead with another round of negotiations at the end of January.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced that Chinese Vice Premier Liu He will “most likely” visit Washington on Jan. 30 and 31 to meet with his U.S. counterparts, including U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, reports Reuters.
However, a deal could potentially be stalled by the ongoing partial shutdown of the U.S. government, which has entered its 21st day — tying a record for the longest gap in federal funding as President Donald Trump continues to feud with congressional Democrats over funding his proposed wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
An extended shutdown could impact the logistics of scheduling diplomatic meetings between the countries, as the USTR confirmed it “would be an agency affected by a lapse in appropriations.” (Should it last through Saturday, the shutdown will become the longest in U.S. history.)
“Essential personnel will be on duty to ensure USTR continues to conduct all necessary operations, including trade negotiations and enforcement,” a spokesman for the department added.
The higher-level talks would come less than a month after delegates from the world’s two largest economies met in

These Simple Shoe Hacks Take the Pain Out of Wearing High Heels

Most women have a love-hate relationship with heels. On the one hand, they’re beautiful and can make your legs look miles long, yet sky-high stilettos can often cause achy arches, painful blisters and even make existing foot problems like bunions worse. Thankfully, though, there are some handy products on the market that can combat all of these issues so you can comfortably rock your favorite pairs.
Use Moleskin for Blisters
Moleskin is an easy fix for preventing blisters. The heavy cotton, which features an adhesive on the back, can easily be cut and molded to fit areas on the foot that tend to painfully rub against shoes (like around the toes and back of the heel). Plus, it’s more durable than standard bandaids, which tend to bunch or fall off completely after a few hours of walking.
To buy: Dr. Scholl’s Moleskin Plus Padding, $5.
Use Gel Insoles or Cushions for Metatarsal Pain
Due to the slope of heels, downward pressure is concentrated most at the ball of the foot — often causing intense soreness. To help redistribute that pressure and alleviate pain, try a gel insole. (We recommend this highly rated option from Dr. Scholl’s, which features a slim design so as not to make heels feel too tight).

‘The Bachelor’ Star Colton Underwood Talks Fashion: ‘I Don’t Wear Socks and I Don’t Wear Underwear’

No socks, no underwear, no problem. “The Bachelor” star Colton Underwood evidently doesn’t like to feel constricted.
“I don’t wear socks and I don’t wear underwear,” the 26-year-old said of his dressing habits during an interview with FN one day after the Jan. 7 premiere of the ABC series.
An admitted shoeholic (the show’s stylist Cary Fetman affectionately calls him a “shoe whore”), Underwood’s personal footwear collection runs upwards of 250 pairs.
“My favorite brand now is To Boot New York — they’re comfortable and have my size,” he explained, referring to his exceptionally large shoe size 14.

How Gen Z Shoppers Are Fueling the Sustainable Fashion Movement

Between the widespread use of hazardous synthetic chemicals and the massive amounts of carbon emissions in the textile sector, it’s no surprise an increasing number of shoppers are thinking twice before they buy.
In fact, a new study by information technology firm CGS discovered that consumers actively seek sustainable products, with more than a third of respondents willing to pay 25 percent more than original price for eco-friendly items. Surveying upwards of 1,000 respondents aged 18 and up, researchers also found that almost 70 percent believe sustainability was an “important” factor to consider when making a purchase.
“Today’s buyers are driven by more than price — they’re looking for brands that align with their own values and needs,” said Paul Magel, president of the business applications division at CGS. “To create a loyal customer base, brands must be transparent about the materials and development behind their products.”
Among the most eco-conscious shoppers were Gen Zers. About 68 percent of the demographic have made an eco-friendly purchase in the past year. While price remains the top factor for shoppers, more than 20 percent of Gen Z consumers singled out “ethical business and manufacturing” as a top purchasing consideration. They were also more likely to

Nike’s Dutch Tax Treatment Under Investigation By EU Officials

The European Commission has launched an “in-depth investigation” into Nike’s tax treatment in the Netherlands.
The group, which oversees various policies in the 28-member EU, said today that it will examine whether tax rulings granted by the Netherlands to the global athletic behemoth may have given the company an unfair advantage over its competitors, breaching EU state aid rules.
“Member states should not allow companies to set up complex structures that unduly reduce their taxable profits and give them an unfair advantage over competitors,” said Margrethe Vestager, commissioner in charge of competition policy. “The commission will investigate carefully the tax treatment of Nike in the Netherlands, to assess whether it is in line with EU State aid rules. At the same time, I welcome the actions taken by the Netherlands to reform their corporate taxation rules and to help ensure that companies will operate on a level playing field in the EU.”
The commission said its investigation will center on two Nike group companies based in the Netherlands, Nike European Operations Netherlands BV and Converse Netherlands BV. Both entities develop, market and record the sales of Nike and Converse products in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
From 2006 to 2015, Dutch tax authorities issued five tax rulings, two of

Results Are In: How Macy’s, Kohl’s and Other Retailers Performed During the Holiday Shopping Season

Although many retailers appeared to find their stride, 2018 was not without its ups and downs for footwear and apparel sellers as well as their shareholders.
Toward the end of the year, the stock market saw sizable swings in both directions on a regular basis, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average marking its worst December since the Great Depression.
Despite strong consumer confidence, low unemployment and tumbling fuel prices, retailers saw most of their early year gains wiped out — a decline that unfortunately extended into the all-important holiday shopping season. (The National Retail Federation predicted that holiday retail sales during November and December would advance between 4.3 and 4.8 percent over the same period last year.)
Keeping track of results, FN rounds up retailers’ sales numbers and profit outlooks as we enter 2019.
Kohl’s Corp.
Shares at Kohl’s dipped nearly 10 percent on Thursday after the Milwaukee-based retailer noted a rise of just 1.2 percent in same-store sales for the last two months, compared with 6.9 percent the same time in 2017. However, robust growth in its digital business allowed the company to raise its full-year guidance to a range of $5.50 to $5.55, versus its prior outlook of $5.35 to $5.55.

Virgil Abloh’s Latest Off-White x Nike Collab Is Coming in Kids’ Sizes

Virgil Abloh’s latest Off-White x Nike collaboration is coming in pint-sized sizes.
Nike revealed today the upcoming “The Ten” release — the Air Max 90 — will be available in little kids’ and baby toddler sizes.
The teensy sneakers are coming to market on Jan. 17 and will come in two colorways: black/white and beige/mango.
While Abloh’s made one-off versions of his kicks for celebrity kids (Serena Williams’ baby daughter got a pair of custom kicks just like her mama’s during the U.S. Open, for instance), not many Off-White x Nike shoes have been made in miniature sizes.
The first child-sized Off-White x Nike sneakers were the Air Force 1 Lows, which released on Dec. 19, 2018. In the latest reissue — which may be Abloh’s last shoe from “The Ten” — more kicks will be up for grabs in both men’s and kids’ sizes.
