Kaia Gerber Models Sacai’s Nike Kicks on Paris Runway

Last season, Sacai’s Chitose Abe showcased two hybrids of four classic Nike sneakers complete with double tongues, double shoe laces and double swooshes. Now for fall ’19, she has extended her spring collaboration with the sports giant.
Kaia Gerber opened the show in Abe’s Sacai x Nike’s LDV Waffle Daybreak sneaker. The Blazer/Dunk hybrid look is also back for next season in new gray, black and white color combinations.

However, the designer has evolved the idea with detachable faux-fur details and zip-up leather shells. There’s also vertical lacing and fringed components that take cues from more formal footwear.

“It’s an extension of last season,” Abe told FN backstage. “I wanted to add some elegance to the sporty Nike pieces.” She further extended the Nike relationship with co-branded puffa jackets in both black and white.

Indeed, fashion’s finally caught up with Abe. This season’s formal fusion trend could have been made for Sacai. After all, splicing together seemingly discordant pieces has been her signature since she launched her label.
Today in Paris, she spliced classic flannel pants with performance leggings. In her own

Celeb Stylist Elizabeth Stewart and Sergio Rossi Have Redefined the Power Pump

“It’s a new definition of the power pump,” is how celebrity stylist Elizabeth Stewart describes styles from her capsule collection with Sergio Rossi.
Stewart, who counts Julia Roberts and Viola Davis among her clients, celebrated the launch of the collaboration Thursday in Los Angeles at the Italian luxury brand’s pop-up store at Westfield Century City.

Pumps and sandals in black, red and light pink are emblazoned with empowering words like “strength,” “hope,” “kindness” and “sharing.” The messages are meant to give women a chance to embrace style, substance and solidarity — with 100 percent of sales supporting Time’s Up, an organization dedicated to women’s safety and equality in the workplace.
“I wanted the shoes to be a sort of a talisman for the wearer,” Stewart told Footwear News at the event. “First it was ‘strength’ and ‘power’ — the idea being you can go on a job interview and you put them on and it gives you strength — but also I don’t want to forget things that [women] want to be, like kind and sharing. It’s a reminder and source of strength.”

Vivobarefoot’s Co-Founder Explains Why the Brand Is Making Shoes Out of Algae

Vivobarefoot is out to be a leader in the eco-friendly footwear marketplace. And its co-founder, Asher Clark, explained to FN how his brand intends to do it. Here’s what the exec had to say.
For spring ’19, your brand introduced Vivo Bio. What is it?
“Vivo Bio is [a series of] shoes made from plant-based polymers. We mainly use algae and yellow field corn, and we do that with a company called Bloom and Dupont. They’re made with materials that are between 40 and 50 percent plant-based. The rest are petrochemical, the same way shoes today are made. We want to push that bio content as close to 100 percent as we can.”
How much will Vivobarefoot rely on this line?
“That’s a good question we can’t answer until we can properly quantify the sustainable impact through the whole supply chain. But there’s still a place for recycled plastic in certain areas, and there’s a place for products made with beautiful natural materials like leather and wools. Until it’s properly quantified down to the nth degree, these buckets of materials are going to be narratives in our collection.”

Why This Cult-Favorite DTC Brand Is Venturing Into Brick-and-Mortar

At a time when brick-and-mortar has earned a reputation for faltering amid digital disruption, M.Gemi has its sights set on a permanent store at the newly developed Hudson Yards in New York City.
Opening on March 15, the Italian cafe-inspired space will span about 1,450 square feet and feature a charging station, lounge seating and a coffee bar where customers can enjoy an espresso while they shop. The store will also offer VIP shopping appointments powered by Resy as well as an ongoing series of community events.
“We began experimenting with physical retail pop-ups in 2016, and quickly found what we refer to as a ‘super consumer’ — our clients who shop both online and in store,” said co-founder and president Cheryl Kaplan. “These super consumers are our most loyal clients and they purchase more often, have a higher average order value and return less than the single channel shopper.”
M.Gemi currently has an outpost at the Bloomingdale’s on 59th Street, which opened as part of the department store’s redesigned shoe floor in April. It had also ran a pop-up shop in the city’s SoHo neighborhood from September 2016 to last August. At the pop-up, the brand noted that about 30 percent of

Nike’s First Wave of Air Max 720s Are Releasing Next Month

During September’s Q1 earnings conference call, Nike unveiled Air Max 720, the newest member in its Air Max line, which was slated to release sometime this spring. Right on schedule, the latest Air Max model is ready to launch beginning next month.
The Air Max 720 will boast the tallest Air Max unit to date at 38mm tall with a 360-degree see-through cushioning system. This record was previously set by last year’s Air Max 270, which stood at 32mm high. By having the tallest Air unit in the heel, the 720 is able to provide the most spring of any Air Max shoe. The sole is made from more than 75 percent recycled manufacturing waste. The runner will feature a mesh material on the upper with two additional mesh pods on the sides and heel for breathability.
The first two colorways of the sneaker are inspired by the Northern Lights. The night and day versions will be available Feb. 1 on the SNKRS app and at select Nike retailers globally.

Ariana Grande’s Shoes Are Pretty, Pink & Expensive — Just Like Her ‘7 Rings’ Music Video

Ariana Grande dropped her highly anticipated song “7 Rings” along with the extravagant all-pink music video last night, and everyone’s buzzing about the details, from her various bold looks to her co-stars, which included her dog, Toulouse. It’s a lavish display of glamour, glitz and, well, money.
So of course, Grande wore some statement-making footwear for the shoot. Sophia Webster took to Instagram this morning to confirm that the pop star was wearing her shoes in the video. The designer shared several screengrabs of Grande, writing: “#SpottedInSophias She wants it, she got it! @arianagrande came to slay in her new video ‘7 rings’ wearing #SophiaWebster shoes.”

The 25-year-old singer donned Webster’s fuchsia satin Dina bootie featuring a fuchsia crystal embellished vinyl ankle strap. The style retails for $695. Grande also wore the British shoes designer’s bright pink satin Andie sandal, which comes with a baby pink satin and silver glitter double bow strap detail. The silhouette, which comes in three other colorways, will cost you $495.
But Grande’s Sophia Websters aren’t the only designer wares in the video. Christian Louboutin gets a cheeky shout-out in the lyrics: “Whoever said money can’t solve your problems / Must not have had enough money to solve ’em / They say, “Which one?”

VF Corp. Sails Past Earnings Expectations as Vans Delivers Strongest Quarter in Two Years

VF Corp. has what all retailers want right now: a portfolio of thriving brands, and resilience in the face of macroeconomic pressures.
The company, which recently relocated to Denver from its former home of Greensboro, N.C., reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.31 on Friday before market open, soaring past the consensus estimate of $1.10. Its net revenue reached $3.94 billion, up 8 percent and beating Wall Street expectations of $3.87 billion.
Vans’ results for its fiscal third quarter were a particular highlight as they have been for the past several quarters. On a call with investors and analysts, Steve Rendle, VF’s chairman, president and CEO, called out the skate lifestyle brand for its “strongest quarter in the last two years,” pointing to 25 percent revenue growth (27 percent on a constant currency basis) over last year’s already strong sales, as well as 50 percent growth in the direct-to-consumer online channel.
“Vans has delivered another exceptional quarter of growth, further cementing their rightful place as the No. 3 global sport/lifestyle brand,” said Rendel. “While obviously a brand this size won’t grow at these exceptional rates forever, we have great confidence in their ability to sustain double-digit growth by relying on not just one

Will Rihanna’s Rumored Fashion Label With LVMH Take Off?

In arguably her biggest power move yet, Rihanna is reportedly in talks with LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, parent company to Christian Dior, Fendi and Givenchy, to launch a fashion house under her own name, according to FN’s sister publication, WWD.
If confirmed, it would become the first fashion brand launched from inception by industry magnate Bernard Arnault since Christian Lacroix in 1987, and Rihanna would own the title as the first female designer of color at what is widely considered the largest luxury group in the world.
Citing multiple sources, WWD added that LVMH has already handpicked a number of employees from brands like Louis Vuitton and Celine to work on the project with Rihanna and some of her top associates. (Details about the launch and its timing remain unknown.)
With news of a potential sartorial venture, the question of whether RiRi’s fashion house will achieve success has inevitably surfaced. Historically, it might appear that celebrity-backed luxury fashion labels don’t necessary live up to their A-list names — partly because their target markets might not be able to afford their products’ high price points.
According to a survey conducted by consumer intelligence research platform CivicScience, the income levels of Rihanna’s fans aged 18 to 34

What He’s Packing: How Bloomingdale’s Justin Berkowitz Prepares for European Fashion Weeks

When it comes to packing for the onslaught of fashion weeks in Europe, Justin Berkowitz is no rookie.
As director of men’s fashion at Bloomingdale’s, Berkowitz regularly navigates the circuits between London, Milan and Paris, adapting to the changing climates, terrains and style aesthetics in each fashion capital — so it’s no surprise he has a few secrets to getting his packing game down to a T.

Here, FN learns his travel essentials.
What are your go-to travel shoes? Why?
“I tend to wear my heaviest pair of shoes — usually boots — to save space in my baggage, according to the adage of wearing your bulkiest pieces on the plane. In the winter, that’s often an old pair of Tricker’s black leather lace-up boots, and in the summer, a pair of desert boots.”
What and how many shoes are you packing? Which brands?
“Normally, I would pack three or four variations on a theme, typically versions of white sneakers. This trip, I’m trying to switch it up a little bit and am packing shoes that feel aesthetically very different. I will be gone just over two weeks, so I’m packing six pairs total: a classic pair of Bordeaux leather derbies from O’Keefe, low Wallabees from

The Launches and Retail Innovations That Will Dominate the NRF Big Show

At the NRF Big Show, held Jan. 13-15 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, roughly 700 exhibitors will aim to showcase their newest technologies to 37,000 attendees.
And the timing couldn’t be better, particularly as the retail market faces challenges on numerous fronts.
Several companies plan to launch technologies that can be integrated into existing products and platforms. For instance, Kronos Inc. and Toshiba are respectively implementing AI to power additional insights into HR and point-of-sale (POS). Toshiba, the global POS market leader, is also releasing several POS and printing tools, including the TCx Single Station Printer; at 406 millimeters per second, it’s the fastest receipt printer in the industry.
“Toshiba is making frictionless shopping a reality by employing enabling technologies such as artificial intelligence,” said Bill Melo, chief marketing executive of global commerce solutions. “The solutions, services and innovative concepts that we’re demonstrating will enhance the shopping experience for customers and improve operational results for retailers globally.”
NRF provides an opportunity for international companies to tap into a whole new market, including Taggstar, the Social Proof messaging company, and Nedap, creators of the fastest-growing RFID platform. Nedap’s !D Cloud platform has already seen large-scale rollouts in Europe and South Africa, but NRF will

Pregnant Jessica Simpson Shares a Photo of Her Swollen Feet — Here’s What She Can Do

Jessica Simpson likes to stay in touch with her fans. This time, the mom-to-be reached out on Instagram for advice on how to treat her swollen feet. While there are some commonsense tips such as resting at intervals through the day and keeping feet elevated, FN reached out medical and footwear experts on advice for dealing with the discomfort she’s experiencing.
According to the American Pregnancy Association, a website that promotes wellness, during this period, the body produces about 50 percent more blood and body fluids to meet the needs of the developing baby, resulting in swelling called edema.

Dr. Joshua Moore, a podiatrist and surgeon at the Temple University Foot & Ankle Institute, explained that while there are some lifestyle changes pregnant women can make to address swollen feet, the condition can’t be prevented. Here, he shares tips on how to lessen the swelling.
Change your diet
The most important action women can take is limiting their intake of sodium and caffeine since these can cause dehydration in the body, which results in the retention of water.

Pitti Uomo Once Again Attracts the Best Men’s Street Style

Pitti Uomo, the biannual menswear fair in Florence Italy, just wrapped up its fall ’19 show today during men’s fashion month. This time around, the event, which is known for attracting incomparable street style, didn’t disappoint and FN was one the scene to capture its best moments.
As far as trends were concerned, the male guests continued to choose sneakers as their footwear of choice. Popular brands included Nike, Balenciaga and Converse. However, the chunky dad shoe trend seems to be coming to an end. Rather than choosing Balenciaga’s Triple S, men chose the label’s new hiker-inspired Track Trainers.

There was also a hint of Western, as seen on attendee Alladin Philipe Faily. He wore a pair of Heritage boots paired with a Southwest-inspired Pendleton coat with a shearling trim.

A lot of men went for sleek and polished ensembles featuring suiting and classic loafers. Some accessorized with hats and scarves. And those who opted for more typical men’s shoe silhouettes made sure they were elevated. Goodwill Is Getting Into the Luxury Authentication Game

If you’re buying luxury accessories secondhand, you want to be sure you’re getting the real deal — and now Goodwill wants to make sure you are, thanks to new authentication tools.
The Orange County, Calif.-based nonprofit, which supports programs like job training and professional certifications for people with disabilities or other barriers to employment, is partnering with the AI-powered authentication solution Entrupy to enable workers in 125 Goodwill agencies across the country to establish luxury donations as genuine on the spot before listing them online.
On Shopgoodwill.com, the pieces are then listed for auction with an Entrupy certificate, which provides a financial guarantee of authenticity for one year from the date of purchase. The program uses microscopic surface images from tens of thousands of styles to analyze materials and verify individual items.
Currently, the solution works with a select list of designers, including Louis Vuitton, Dior, Balenciaga and Gucci, and only authenticates handbags and small leather goods, but according to a press release, additional product categories are planned for 2019.
“Over the years, Shopgoodwill.com has benefited from our local community’s generous donations of high-end items. At the same time, we’ve witnessed ‘Caveat Emptor’ first hand, and that skepticism keeps us from maximizing the full
