Instagram Slams Kim Kardashian After North West Wears Adult Spike Heels at a Party

North West loves wearing mom Kim Kardashian’s high heels — and Twitter has a lot to say about it.

North paired the shoes with a feather-trimmed minidress. Baby sister Chicago rocked a similar dress but had on sensible Yeezy sneakers.
The KKW Beauty mogul’s decision to let her daughter wear the shoes elicited mixed reactions on Instagram — with many of her followers suggesting North shouldn’t have been allowed to step out of the house in high heels.

The Nike Air Force 1, Cortez and Blazer Are Getting Sustainable Earth Day Makeovers

Nike is celebrating Earth Day this month with a special collaboration. The brand has partnered with Los Angeles-based artist Steven Harrington, who is know for his psychedelic aesthetic, for a capsule collection inspired by the planet.
The collection includes the Air Force 1 (retailing for $100), Cortez ($90) and Blazer ($80) sneaker styles. And in the capsule, Harrington features his signature pop art style animations with dog and palm tree characters, which were inspired by the saying “Earth Day, Every Day.”

Here Comes the (New) Bridal Shoe: How Brands Are Finally Realizing the Potential of Wedding Footwear

Goodbye, dyed to match. Flat, casual, vegan shoes — and a plethora of other creative options — are making their way down the wedding aisle.
As New York Bridal Week kicks off today, buyers and editors will view the latest crop of wedding wear that is likely to continue its pivot to a new kind of bride.
Past seasons have shown updated silhouettes: Think two pieces, jumpsuits and bridal tuxedos, as well as more casual — and affordable — dress options. And alongside them, the bridal footwear market is making its own updates that go far past the conventional white satin pump, with everyone from Toms to Jimmy Choo and Casadei taking a piece of the market.

Converse and Brit Label JW Anderson Release a Retro Americana-Inspired Sneaker

From fluffy neon high-tops to ballet-inspired kicks taken from vintage silhouettes, J.W. Anderson has never been afraid to push the boundaries with its Converse collabs. And, in true form, the two styles coming out next week have the same risk-taking ethos.
Although founder Jonathan Anderson is a Brit, the label’s latest collaboration takes inspiration from Americana. The Converse x J.W. Anderson Grid — a style that’s been around since the beginning of the brands’ partnership — has been reinterpreted in patriotic fashion.
An archival American flag print is emblazoned on the shoe, with J.W. Anderson branding incorporated into the stars and stripes. The right shoe is red and white, while the left is dark blue with stars.

Nike Pulled an Ad Campaign After Historians Raised Alarm Over Confederate Slogan

Nike’s latest ad campaign was online for just a few hours before historians on Twitter noticed a problem: the slogan, “The Lost Cause,” was intended to promote the brand’s new Trail Running collection, but it also called up a phrase with disturbing significance dating back to the years following the Civil War.
In that context, the Lost Cause refers to a revisionist interpretation of the Confederacy’s defeat that painted slavery as a benevolent institution and the war as a justified means to defend the antebellum way of life. As the Washington Post reports, historians like Amy Kohout were quick to point out the problem with the ad when it ran on March 30, and after just a few hours of tweets and comments directed at Nike’s Trail Running account and several sports retailers that posted the campaign, the brand pulled it from all platforms. (FN has reached out to Nike for comment.)

[email protected], I sure hope you don’t support the Lost Cause, which is a persistent Confederate and white supremacist ideology celebrating the values of the Old South and arguing that that the Civil War was not caused by slavery. Much violence has been done in its name. https://t.co/GPrZSNeDLu

This Is What’s Really Going on Inside Your Shoes — Details You Never Knew on the Anatomy

Ever wonder what’s behind all those official-looking tags hanging on your boots and shoes? They tell the story of the anatomy and components that go into your footwear, from waterproofing to insulation and cushioning technologies.
Among the leaders in today’s construction arena are Vibram, Gore-Tex, Ortholite, and Primaloft, often found in the athletic, outdoor and work footwear markets. While these branded technologies can add to the cost of the shoe, manufacturers and consumers are often willing to pay the price due to the reliability and performance features they offer.
“As a brand ourselves, we clearly believe there is a concrete benefit in branded goods,” said Soyla Breen, senior director, footwear merchandising for work & outdoor for Ariat International, about the use of branded componentry. “A brand cares about its reputation, and there is therefore a sense of accountability that drives excellence.”
While there are lots of quality generic components used in footwear today, branded component makers will often invest more in research and development, thus driving up the cost of their products. However, spending a bit more up front can mean extending the life and performance of the shoes you buy.
