Safilo Group Continues to Support Special Olympics

MILAN — Safilo Group announced on Friday it has renewed its support to nonprofit organization Special Olympics for an additional three-year period, after a partnership of 15 years. Over this period, the Italian eyewear company donated more than 1.2 million frames.
The partnership is extended through 2021 and includes the donation of 60,000 optical frames and sunglasses annually to support the association’s Opening Eyes program, which provides eye care for people with disabilities. The program falls under the organization’s broader Healthy Athletes public health initiative.
“We’re very proud to renew the partnership with Special Olympics, first signed more than 15 years ago, thereby confirming our efforts to bring primary eye care screenings and eyewear to Special Olympics athletes around the world,” said Angelo Trocchia, chief executive officer of Safilo Group. “It marks once again our commitment to eye health programs that will have an important impact on millions of lives globally,” he added.
Founded in 1968, Special Olympics, which marks its 50th anniversary this year, has been actively involved in supporting people with intellectual disabilities through sport, health programs and educational initiatives. It counts 6 million athletes hailing from 170 countries.
