Creative Time Goes to Bushwick

Two years ago, Creative Time helped Pedro Reyes realize his worst nightmare.
“It was like a dream come true, except that it was like a nightmare come true because it was a house of horror,” Reyes said on Thursday night, standing against a backdrop of his recent illustrations while discussing his 2016 immersive art project, “Doomsday.” “Two years ago, I came to [Creative Time] and I told them ‘How about doing a house of political horrors, like a haunted house about politics?’ Because there’s nothing more scary than politics,” he added.
Reyes was the artist honoree at the public art organization’s annual fall gala, held at a Bushwick warehouse. The raw space had been transformed into a “Brutalist-inspired architectural landscape” inspired by Reyes’ hometown of Mexico City and interpreted by gala co-chair Alexandre de Betak’s design firm. During cocktail hour, guests sipped margaritas; Mary-Kate Olsen chatted with de Betak as Sofia Sanchez de Betak grabbed a selfie with fellow co-chairs Jon Neidich and Olivier Sarkozy. Wes Gordon and husband Paul Arnhold were also making the rounds.
“We became huge fans of Creative Time through [former director] Anne Pasternak, who’s now at the Brooklyn Museum, but since then we’re converts,” Arnhold said. The evening was kicking off
