Stuart Weitzman Names Edmundo Castillo Head of Product Design

Stuart Weitzman has tapped shoe industry veteran Edmundo Castillo as its head of product design, WWD has learned.
Castillo began the role on May 31. The departure of Stuart Weitzman’s creative director Giovanni Morelli was announced on May 21.
While Tapestry Inc. — the publicly traded holding company for Stuart Weitzman — confirmed Castillo’s hire, it declined to elaborate on the nature of his role, citing a quiet period in the market.
In the past, Castillo has operated a namesake brand for various intervals of time, which was stocked at luxury stores including Bergdorf Goodman. He has also held lead design roles for Aquatalia, Castañer, Via Spiga, Santoni, Sergio Rossi and Tod’s.
Much like Weitzman’s namesake founder, Castillo has expertise in designing comfortable footwear with an elegant profile. At Aquatalia — where Castillo served as executive vice president and creative director for more than two years, departing in September 2017 — he was tasked with updating the all-weather brand to reflect a more fashionable aesthetic.
In 2001, he won the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Perry Ellis award for emerging talent in accessories design. The designer was also a participant in the inaugural CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in 2004, which was the subject of a documentary,
